Today is a grey day. Clouds roll in and out, it cools off when they come in, and then the sun warms everything up when they go out. Mostly they have been coming in, and making everything grey and cold. It is a sit on the couch with a warm drink and watch movies day. Not just random movies, but the movies I go to for comfort and familiarity. I realized I have a certain stack of movies I can go to time and again, of various ages and genera’s. Thought I would throw a few of them out in the blog world for you all. So, without further eloquence, here they are:
John Wayne movies. I was raised on them, love them, can watch them over and over, but there are certain ones that I keep going back to, and put in the background. They are: The Quiet Man, The Searchers, Rio Bravo, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence, The Sons of Katie Elder (by the way, the newer movie Four Brothers was based on The Sons of Katie Elder), Big Jake, The Cowboys (my moms favorite), and The Shootist, which is the last movie he made. Also the movie that my girlfriend watched, and then conceded that she agreed John Wayne was a better actor than people think he was. The Quiet man is the only non Western Movie in this group.
I had to keep John Wayne and Clint Eastwood movies separated from the rest, they have that level of love for me. As for the rest of my “go to” movies? They are in no particular order: Die Hard, Kingdom of Heaven, Airplane!, Blazing Saddles, Gettysburg, IT, Lonesome Dove, and John Carpenters masterpiece, Halloween.
I have a few more, but these ones are the perfect ones to me, and for me.
